Softball sweeps Fairmont State, Craver tosses one-hitter

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College swept a softball doubleheader from visiting Fairmont State on Monday afternoon at Whitley Field. The Lady Indians won by the scores of 1-0 and 6-1, improving to 9-11 on the season. Fairmont State falls to 2-6. Freshman Jeana Craver (Lexington, NC) came within one out of tossing just the third no-hitter in Catawba history, but Adrienne Belcastro (Bridgeport, WV) broke up the bid with a two out single in the seventh. Craver got the next batter to ground out to pick up the one-hit shutout. Katie Phelps (Prince Frederick, MD) drove home the lone run with a triple in the fifth. Lindsay Ettinger (Pasadena, MD) recorded the win in game two, evening her mark at 5-5. She scattered six hits, allowing just one run with a pair of strikeouts. Amanda Myers (Lynchburg, VA) belted a three-run homer in the third to put Catawba up 4-0. Myers also had a double in each game, while Shannon Handy (Advance, NC) had a pair of hits and two RBI in the nightcap. Stephanie Luzader (Tridelphia, WV) had a pair of hits for Fairmont State in the second game. #####
