WILSON, N.C. – The Catawba College women’s lacrosse team got their second straight victory with a 16-12 win over the Barton College Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. Mercedez Boucicaut scored five goals, Caroline Falcone netted three, and Aryn Dorr made 15 saves to secure the victory.

Barton was the first to get on the board in Saturday’s non-conference showdown. The Bulldogs scored less than a minute into the game to go up, 1-0. Colleen Green quickly tied the score when she beat the goalkeeper less than three minutes later for her third goal of the season.

Neither team scored for the next seven minutes until Barton got one past Aryn Dorr with 4:24 left in the opening quarter to go back ahead, 2-1. The Lady Indians answered again this time, by scoring back-to-back goals in a 45-second span. Mercedez Boucicaut tied the game then Charlize Skepple gave CatU their first lead of the game, 3-2, with 2:42 left before the second quarter.

Catawba kept that momentum going by netting three straight goals to open the second period. Three different players scored which included Caroline Falcone, Boucicaut, and Colleen Green. The five unanswered goals gave Catawba a 6-2 lead with 9:28 left before halftime.

The Bulldogs came back with two goals to cut it to a 6-4 Catawba lead, but the Lady Indians got two more goals, one from Ella McCusker and another by Boucicaut to jump back up, 8-4. At halftime, CatU led 8-5.

Both teams exchanged goals in the first six minutes into the second half. Charlize Skepple got her second of the game, and that was followed by another goal by Boucicaut and another off the stick of McCusker on a man-up opportunity. Caroline Falcone sliced through the defense and ripped a shot past the keeper for Catawba’s final goal in the third period, as they took a 12-9 lead into the fourth.

Catawba’s offense got the separation they needed by scoring three unanswered goals in the first eight minutes of the final period. Isabella Lehr, Falcone, and Green each beat the keeper to give their team a 15-9 lead with under eight minutes left to play. Mercedez Boucicaut scored her fifth of the game and her tenth of the season to put an exclamation point on a 16-12 win for Catawba.

The women’s lacrosse team moved to 2-1 on the season, and their next game will be on February 26th at Chowan.
