Baseball holds on for 6-5 win at AndersonANDERSON, SC -- Brian Hatley (Salisbury, NC) came in to record the final out and Spence Southard (Greensboro, NC) provided what proved to be the winning run with a solo home run in the top of the ninth to lead Catawba to a 6-5 victory over Anderson College in baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The Indians improve to 16-9, while Anderson falls to 6-15. Catawba led 6-2 entering the bottom of the ninth, but Anderson put together a three-run rally with the help of Indian pitching. With one out, three straight Anderson batters walked to load the bases. Pinch runner Seth Thompson scored on a wild pitch, and Kyle Lewis and Cody Nye both scored on a single by Caleb Owen. Owen's potential tying run was left stranded at first when Hatley entered to get a ground out to end the game. Catawba had extended its lead to 5-2 in the eighth on an RBI single by Mark Smith (Browns Summitt, NC) that scored Nick Lefko (Faith, NC). #####
