Women's Lacrosse Takes Care of Business With 21-6 Win Over Converse

SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba College women's lacrosse team had eight players record more than one goal in a 21-6 victory over Converse University at Shuford Stadium on Wednesday night.

Gracie Hubbard led the offensive onslaught as she scored four goals, and Ella McCusker was next in line with three goals. Isabella Lehr, Colleen Green, Madison Shaffer, Michaela Lantz, Jade Williams, and Mercedez Boucicaut each had two goals in the win.

The Lady Indians started out on fire with eight goals in the opening frame. Gracie Hubbard scored the first goal of the game on a free position shot before Converse scored six minutes later to tie the game, 1-1.

It was all Catawba from then on out as the home team scored the next nine goals going into the second quarter. With 6:22 left in the second period, Catawba held a 10-1 lead.

Converse scored one more in the period before the Lady Indians had goals from Ella McCusker, Jade Williams, Isabella Lehr, and Madison Shaffer in the final four minutes before halftime to put their squad ahead, 14-2.

Catawba scored seven more times in the second half to put an exclamation point on thwir first night game of the year. Wednesday night's win moved the women's lacrosse team to 4-2 on the year.

The Lady Indians will play next on Sunday at Lincoln Memorial in their first conference game of the 2022 season at noon.
