Women's Lacrosse Opens SAC Play With 8-6 Defeat at LMU

HARROGATE, TN – The Catawba College women’s lacrosse team made the trek to Lincoln Memorial for the team’s first South Atlantic Conference matchup of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Indians held a two-goal lead in the third, but LMU scored six unanswered goals to defeat Catawba, 8-6.

The Lady Indians got off to a solid start when Colleen Green and Isabella Lehr began the game with back-to-back goals in the first six minutes. The Railsplitters got on the board with just 1:16 left in the first to make it 2-1 going to the second quarter.

Both team’s defenses stepped up in the second quarter and limited each side to one goal each before halftime. Aaryn Dorr made four stops in the quarter to keep Catawba in front 3-2 at the break.

Colleen Green scored her second goal of the game within the first five minutes of the second half following a pass from Mercedez Bocicaut to put CatU ahead 4-2 with 11:18 to play.

Lincoln Memorial made their move by netting six goals in a row over the course of the third and fourth quarter to flip-flop the lead in their favor, 7-4.

Catawba was held without a goal until less than three minutes remained. Ella McCusker and Caroline Falcone added late goals to make it a two-goal deficit but only 1:03 remained. Lincoln Memorial won by a final score of 8-6.

The Lady Indians held LMU without a free position goal in the contest (0-7) while Catawba was just 3-for-9 on free position attempts. The women’s lacrosse team will play again on Wednesday at Limestone starting at 4:00 p.m.
