Dorr Ties Program Record In Saves; Lady Indians Defeat UVA Wise 12-6
The Cavaliers answered back with two straight goals eight seconds apart to tie the game at 2-2 with 8:55 left in the first quarter.
Caroline Falcone scored the Lady Indians’ next two goals after being fouled in the crease when she converted two free position shots. They were here 14th and 15th free position goals on the year.
UVA Wise scored one more time with 4:13 left in the opening quarter to make the score 4-3.
Catawba ended the first half by blanking the Cavaliers on defense and scoring five unanswered goals on the offensive end. Boucicaut scored three of the five and McCusker and Gracie Hubbard netted the other two to give the home team a 9-3 lead at the break.
After the break, it took some time for either team to get on the board, but the Cavaliers were the first to strike with 6:57 left in the third. Boucicaut netted her fourth score of the game when she slipped through the defense and beat the keeper with under three minutes left.
The Cavaliers got one more goal before the start of the fourth quarter, but Catawba held a 10-5 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
The Lady Indians remained in control and won by a final score of 12-6.
Goalkeeper Aryn Dorr tied the program single-game saves record, which she set back in 2020, after she made 20 saves in Sunday’s contest. Merecedez Boucicaut led the offense with four goals and two assists on the day while Ella McCusker, Gracie Hubbard, and Caroline Falcone each had two goals.
The women’s lacrosse team will play again on Wednesday in a rescheduled game at Lander beginning at 2:00 p.m.
