Women's Lacosse Takes 14-12 Win Over Mars Hill
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba claimed a 14-12 victory over visiting Mars Hill in South Atlantic Conference women’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The win lifts the Catawba Indians to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in the SAC, while the Lions fall to 6-7 and 2-6.
Falcone and Michaela Lantz scored in the opening four minutes of the third quarter to snap a 6-6 halftime tie to put Catawba on top to stay. Mars Hill closed within 11-9 with 9:44 remaining in the fourth quarter before the Lady Indians tallied three straight to go up 14-9 with only 3:21 to go.
Mars Hill made it close, scoring three times to get within 14-12 with 51 seconds to play. Dorr made the last of her saves with just under 30 seconds to play and Catawba would run out the clock.
Mars Hill was led by Sydney Joyce, who had three goals, one assist, nine draw controls and two caused turnovers. Kiersten Foust also collected three goals, while Maria Fabrizio had two goals and two assists.
Catawba travels to Coker on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. contest.
