Baseball uses pair of three-run homers to top PCCLINTON, S.C.. — The Catawba College Indians defeated the Presbyterian College Blue Hose 8-4 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. The Indians improve to 24-10 overall and 7-2 in the SAC, while the Blue Hose fall to 14-15 and 3-6.Catawba connected on three run homers in the first and fourth innings to go ahead 6-0. Catawba's Spence Southard (Greensboro, NC) smashed a three run shot to centerfield in the first and Mark Smith (Browns Summitt, NC) hit a three run homerun in the fourth. Also in the fourth, the Indians scored two more runs to take the lead 8-0 with Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC) and Southard delivering RBI singles in the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, PC's freshman Robert Rodebaugh (Marietta, GA) got robbed of a three run homerun to right field as Nick Lefko (Faith, NC) made a spectacular catch at the fence. Senior center fielder Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC) hit a grand slam to cut Catawba's lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the fifth, but Presbyterian could not overcome the four run deficit as Catawba won 8-4 in nine innings. Leading the Blue Hose at the plate were White with two hits and four RBI's and Nick Hoffner (Elliot City, MD) who went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Southard was 2-for-3 with four RBI for Catawba, while junior Matt Fairweather (Lenoir, NC) picked up his third victory of the season. Brian Hatley (Salisbury, NC) earned his fourth save, allowing just one hit over four innings of work. PC's Robert Cole (Savannah, GA) picked up the loss for the Blue Hose. #####
