Women's Soccer misses shot at SAC Title

SALISBURY, NC -- Wingate University upset league-leading and host Catawba 2-1 in women's soccer action on Tuesday night at Frock Field. Sophomore Julie Law (Waxhaw, NC) scored both goals for the Bulldogs, who improve to 9-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the SAC. Catawba, which was denied a chance tonight to claim its first outright SAC Championship, falls to 9-5-1 and 5-1. The Lady Indians will have a second chance to win the title on Saturday as they host Presbyterian at 7 p.m. Wingate wasted little time in taking the lead, scoring in the fifth minute as Law drilled a shot past Catawba keeper Kim Clayton (Haw River, NC). It was the first goal Catawba had allowed in a league match this season. Law gave the Bulldogs an insurance goal, her 15th of the season, at the 60:54 mark. Catawba scored a late goal by freshman Jessica Parker (Glendale, AZ) in the 90th minute.
