Baseball pounds out 25 hits in 22-2 rout of #10 PfeifferMISENHEIMER, NC – Catawba College pounded out 25 hits, including a school record-tying six by Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC), as the Indians thumped host Pfeiffer, ranked 10th in NCAA II, 22-2 in baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Ferebee Field. Catawba improves to 25-10, while the Falcons fall to 25-7. Catawba got a run in the first inning on a RBI single by Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, NC) and Mark Smith (Browns Summitt, NC) hit the first of his two homers, a two-run shot in the second, for a 3-0 lead. Davis cranked a three-run homer in the third, his team-leading 11th of the season, as the Indians moved to a 7-0 edge. The Tribe broke the game open in the fourth with a seven-run frame. Baker hit a two-run homer in the inning. That was more than enough for Catawba freshman starter Paul Link (Cleveland, NC). The left-hander scattered five hits over his seven innings with a walk and two strikeouts in posting his fifth win without a loss. Pfeiffer got single runs in the fourth, on a RBI single by Brian York, and in the sixth, on a solo homer by Jeff Robbins, his 14th of the season. Six Catawba players enjoyed multi-hit games. Baker led the way with his 6-for-6 day, adding five RBI and four runs scored. Davis had four hits and delivered five RBI to up his season total to 60 in 29 games. Smith collected three this and seven RBI, while Jeff Boyles (Pinnacle, NC) and Spence Southard (Greensboro, NC) each had three hits. ######
