2004 Football schedule announcedCatawba College has announced its 2004 football schedule. The Indians will play 10 regular season games, including four home games. The Indians will face three teams that finished the 2003 season ranked among top 20 in NCAA II. The Tribe will open the season on August 28 against Fayetteville State, who received votes in the final AFCA poll. It will be the third straight season that Catawba will face off against the Broncos after the Indians won two close contests the past two seasons. Catawba will travel to Livingstone for the annual Mayor’s Cup game and then returns to Indiana, PA, for the second time in three years. The meeting with IUP features a contest between two of the teams that just missed a shot at the playoffs last season. Catawba, at 9-2, finished fifth in the South Region, while IUP, at 10-1, ranked fifth in the East Region. In the only other meeting of the teams, IUP rallied from a 26-7 deficit in the final 10 minutes to claim a 27-26 win. IUP was ninth in the final poll with Catawba ranking 12th. Catawba will have an open week before beginning South Atlantic Conference play on September 25 at Shuford Stadium and Kirkland Field against Presbyterian. After a road game at Mars Hill, the Indians return home for a Homecoming meeting with Wingate on October 9. The Indians follow with road trips to Newberry and Tusculum, which finished 19th in the final AFCA Division II poll. Catawba wraps up its regular-season home slate on October 30 against Carson-Newman. The Eagles were sixth in the final poll of 2004. Catawba will close out the regular season with a night game at Lenoir-Rhyne on November 6.
