Baker, Fairweather sweep Baseball Player of Week honors in SAC

ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba's Matt Baker and Matt Fairweather have earned the South Atlantic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, league officials announced Monday. This is the second week in which both honorees played for the same team. Baker, a 5-11, 185-pound junior, won his second Player of the Week honor this season by hitting .625 for the week with six RBI in helping Catawba to a 5-0 record. The Charlotte, NC, native tied the school record for hits in a game with six against Pfeiffer, hitting a double and home run with five RBI and four runs scored. Baker had four multi-hit games in the week, adding a pair of three-hit games in weekend series with Newberry. For the season, he is hitting .453 with 22 doubles. Baker has 73 hits, just seven shy of the school season record of 80. Fairweather tossed a complete game win over Newberry in the middle game of the conference series. The junior from Lenoir, NC, allowed just one run in the game, scattering six hits with two walks and a dozen strikeouts. Fairweather improved his overall record to 4-2 on the year. The SAC position player and pitcher of the week are determined by a vote of the league's eight sports information directors. #####
