Baseball falls 7-2 to #19 Pfeiffer

KANNAPOLIS, NC -- Junior Spencer Anthony (Charlotte, NC) pitched a shutout into the seventh inning, as Pfeiffer University defeated Catawba 7-2 in baseball action on Thursday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Falcons, ranked 19th in NCAA II, improve to 29-8, while Catawba drops to 29-11. Pfeiffer took a 2-0 lead after five innings then added four runs in the sixth to break the game open. The Falcons opened the scoring in the fourth on a one-out single by Justin Little (Charlotte, NC). Jamie Tucker (Midland, NC) singled home Robert Scott (Concord, NC) again with one out. In the sixth, Pfeiffer tallied four runs on four hits and an error. Brian York (Concord, NC), Bryant Parnell (Concord, NC) and Jeff Robbins (Greensboro, NC) all singled home a run, while Scott doubled one home. That was plenty of support for Anthony, who did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. He worked out of bases loaded trouble in both the first and third innings, getting Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, NC) to pop out and fly out. Over his six and two-thirds innings, he allowed three hits, walked nine and struck out seven as he improved to 5-0. Catawba would finally break the ice in the eighth as Thomas Giles (Lynchburg, VA) tripled home Jeff Boyles (Pinnacle, NC). Giles had two of the seven Tribe hits. Nick Lefko (Faith, NC) drove home Giles with a sacrifice fly. York and Robbins each had three hits to lead the 16-hit Pfeiffer attack. ######
