White holds off Blue at Football Spring GameSALISBURY, NC -- The White dominated the opening and held on to defeat the Blue 22-14 in Catawba’s annual Blue/White Spring Football scrimmage on Saturday morning at Shuford Stadium and Kirkland Field. The White scored its 22 points in the opening half, while the Blue scored 14 in the final quarter to draw close. The White took the opening drive and scored first on a one-yard run by Mario Crowe for a 7-0 lead with 6:36 left. A bad snap led to a safety for the White and a 9-0 lead just three minutes later. The White would close the quarter on a 68-yard strike from Luke Samples to Rod Tenor and a 15-0 advantage. The White would add a last score with 1:20 before the half as Glen Lloyd scored from two-yards out for a 22-0 lead at the break. The Blue was held to negative 27 yards in the opening half, completing just one of seven passes with two interceptions. The White had 179 yards, including 118 by Samples through the air and 63 by Crowe on the ground. Thomas Pressley had both picks for the White. After a scoreless third quarter, the Blue scored early in the fourth on a six-yard pass from Delany Mills to Corey Ready with 12:42 left. Red-shirt freshman Brad Roach then led a Blue drive, completing five straight passes and connecting with Sam Cecil on a 36-yard score with 3:08 left. The Blue got near midfield in the closing seconds, but the drive stalled. Roach went on to complete seven straight attempts and finished 7-of-10 for 115 yards. Rodney Wallace led the Blue rushers with 41 yards. Samples was 2-of-17 for the White for 154 yards. Crowe had 70 yards rushing. Dustin Cox had an interception for the Blue.
