WINGATE, NC -- Catawba College and host Wingate split a doubleheader in South Atlantic Conference softball action on Wednesday afternoon at the Wingate softball field. Catawba won 2-1 in the opener, while the Bulldogs rallied for a 6-4 win in the second game. Catawba now stands at 25-22 overall and 5-3 in the SAC, while Wingate is 23-13 and 4-4. For the second time in league play this season, Catawba rallied from a 1-0 deficit in its final at bat to claim a 2-1 win. With two outs, three Wingate errors and a RBI single by Amanda Myers (Lynchburg, VA) was the difference as Catawba took the 2-1 win. Wingate had grabbed the lead in the fourth on a homer by Stephanie White. Catawba managed just five hits, but Lindsey Ettinger (Pasadena, MD) limited the Bulldogs to a single run on eight hits. Brittany Taylor was the tough-luck loser in relief for the Bulldogs. The Lady Indians held a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning, but with two outs, Wingate scored six times to take control. Carey Bumgardner had a three-run double and White followed with a two-run home run. Taylor allowed four runs, two earned, while surrendering eight hits to pick up the win for Wingate. Ettinger took the loss for Catawba after shutting out the Bulldogs for four and two-thirds innings. Bumgardner and Cameron Langston had a pair of hits for Wingate, while Stacey Handy (Advance, NC) had three hits for Catawba. #####
