Fourth quarter surge gives Lacrosse 15-12 win at Mars HillMARS HILL, NC -- Catawba used a strong fourth quarter to top host Mars Hill 15-12 in Deep South Conference menís lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Mears Stadium. Todd Watkins (Greensboro, NC) scored the go-ahead goal with 14:21 remaining for a 12-11 lead the Indians would never relinquish. Catawba improves to 7-5 overall, equaling the school record for wins, and 4-2 in the DSC. Mars Hill falls to 2-9 and 1-6. Catawba outscored the Lions 4-3 in both the first and second quarters behind strong play from Kurt Green (San Diego, CA) and Nate Syring (Maplewood, MN) who led the attack scoring two goals apiece in the first half. Jason Windett (Magnolia, DE) provided three of the assists on the Indiansí eight goals scored in the first half. MHC won the third quarter 5-3 to tie the contest at 11-11. Freshman sensation Andrew Chapman (Toronto, ONT, CANADA) scored three of the Lionsí five third quarter goals. Senior Sean Humphries (Philadelphia, PA) was just as impressive in the third frame supplying the assist on three of the five scores. The fourth quarter belonged to Catawba as they outscored the Lions 4-1 on 12 shots. After Watkins go-ahead goal, Windett scored what would prove to be the game-winner at the 13:35 mark. Windett led Catawba with six points on three goals and three assists. Green followed with four goals and one assist. Justin Garrison (Charlotte, NC) added three assists in the win. Frank Fish (Damascus, MD) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Indians making eight saves facing 20 shots on goal. Chapman led the Lions with six goals and one assist in the loss. Humphreys added two goals and three assists for five points in the game. Jack Riggins (Charlottesville, VA) scored one goal and supplied his teammates with three assists in the contest. Matt Holthaus (Bel Air, MD) played 60 minutes in goal for the Lions making 22 saves facing 37 shots on goal.
