Late miscues costly to Baseball in loss at LRHICKORY, NC -- Lenoir-Rhyne defeated visiting Catawba 7-5 in non-conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon at Bears Field. Jason Bridges (Kings Mountain, NC) keyed the L-R win, hitting a pair of triples as the Bears improved to 22-21. The Indians, ranked #3 in the NCAA Division II South Region Poll, fell to 34-14. The Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings including a four-run second inning highlighted by Bridges' first triple that plated a pair of runs. Catawba would rally to tie the score at five as Mark Smith (Browns Summit, NC) and Matt Smith (Browns Summit, NC) tallied back-to-back RBI's to even the score in the sixth inning. Two Indian errors with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning lead to a pair of Lenoir-Rhyne runs. Brian Tester (Sugar Grove, NC) scored the game-winning run for the Bears. Bridges finished the contest three-for-five with two triples and two runs batted in to lead L-R, while Brian Neill (Charlotte, NC) added a pair of hits. For Catawba, Mark Smith was three-for-five with an RBI. Jeremy Krech (Rock Hill, NC) picked up the win for Lenoir-Rhyne, improving to 3-5 on the season, while Brett Yates (Parker, NC) earned his first save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth. Brian Benton (Wallace, NC), despite allowing two unearned runs, took the loss for Catawba. ######
