Nine additions to join Men's Soccer program in 2004Catawba College men’s soccer coach, Craig Turnbull, has announced nine signings for the 2004 season. Joining the squad for the 2004 season are Troy Brown, of Burlington, NC, Aaron Castaneda, of San Antonio, TX, Nick Denton, of Concord, NC, Nick Kalogeromitros, of Rockwell, NC, Sam Ketner, of Salisbury, NC, Aaron Kryszan, of Medina, OH, Garth McCormack, of Charlotte, NC, Gareth Turnbull, of Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND, and Ryan Villiard, of Holiday, FL. “We are excited about these young men and their commitment to our program,” stated Turnbull. “We return a solid grounp of players from the 2003 squad and know that our recent additions will contribute each in their own way. Time will tell how successful our 2004 team can become, but we feel this may be one of our better recruiting classes in the past few years.” Brown, a 5-8, 130 forward/midfielder, was a two-year starter at Williams High School. He was a two-time all-conference and all-region performer, scoring 24 goals with 12 assists as a senior. Brown was a two-time Junior/Senior Soccer Showcase selection. He helped the Bulldogs to the 2001 state final. Castaneda, a 6-1, 170 midfielder/defender, was a two-year starter at Reagan High School. He was an all-district performer, helping Reagan to a 32-4-5 record over his career and the 2002 5A State Championship. Castaneda was a Texas ODP member and was a member of the South Texas All-Star Team. Denton, a 5-8, 150 midfielder, was a two-year starter at Robinson High School. He was captain and earned all-conference and all-region honors. He helped Robinson to a pair of conference titles. Kryszan, a 6-2, 170 defender, was a four-year starter at Medina High School. He was an all-conference selection and helped the Bees to a district title in 2002. Kryszan was a member of the Ohio ODP team and played with four state cup champion teams. McCornack, a 6-3, 175 midfielder/defender, started three years at Central Cabarrus High School. He earned all-conference honors as a senior, scoring 10 goals with 10 assists. McCormack helped Vikings to a 15-5 mark as a senior and two three state playoff berths. He was a member of the North Carolina ODP team. Turnbull, is a 5-10, 160 forward from St. Bede’s High School. He earned the National Youth “Golden Boot” Award in 2002. He was a member of the Cantebury United National Youth Team and played in the National Youth League. Villiard, a 5-10, 160 defender/midfielder, was a four-year starter at Mitchell High School. He was a three-time all-conference selection and a four-year captain. The two-time team MVP helped the Mustangs to conference and district title as a senior, scoring 31 goals with 15 assists. Villiard was also and All-Academic selection. Ketner, a 6-0, 165 midfielder, and Kalogeromitros, a 5-8, 160 midfielder were both four-year starters at East Rowan High School. “We were able to recruit speed, size and overall a solid standard of play which will certainly make the challenge to be in the top 11 on opening night a tough decision for the coaching staff,” added Turnbull. “I look forward to having the team compete and battle for one of those top spots and certainly the squad will be well prepared for any challenge once the Fall season arrives.” #######
