Lacrosse falls to #2 Limestone in Deep South final

SALISBURY, NC -- Top-seed and NCAA II second-ranked Limestone College used a strong second half to pull away from third-seeded Catawba for a 14-6 win in the finals of the 2004 Deep South Conference Menís Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Shuford Stadium and Kirkland Field. The Saints improve to 14-0 and claim their sixth straight league tournament title. Catawba ends its season at 10-6, setting a record for most wins and recording its first-ever winning season.Limestone got a pair of goals from Chris Barrett (Islip Terrace, NY) to grab a 5-1 lead with 10:52 left in the first half, but Catawba got two second-quarter goals from Matt Riley (Baltimore, MD) to close the gap to 7-4 at the break. The Saints scored the opening four goals of the third quarter to build an 11-4 edge before Riley scored to close the quarter for Catawba. Limestone would tally three times in the fourth to lead 14-5 with Riley adding his team-leading fourth goal of the game to cap the scoring. David Wooster (Annapolis, MD) led Limestone with four goals and added an assists, while Patrick Cardiff (Victoria, BC, CANADA) and Nolan Heavenor (Victoria, BC, CANADA) each added three goals.
