Catawba Chiefs Club Announces New Leaders and Whitley Dedication

The Catawba Chiefs Club recently announced its leadership team for the 2004-2005 year and shared the news that there is potential for record memberships this year in the organization. Chiefs Club Coordinator Bill Pieczynski reports that interest in joining the Club has been heightened and memberships, to date, are running well above those from the same period last year. While some premium seats remain available, over 700 reserved seats have already been allocated and there are still two weeks remaining in this year’s membership drive.Reserved and premium seats are available only to Chiefs Club members. Those interested in joining, should contact the Catawba College Development Office at 704-637- 4394. In late spring, the leadership team of the Club was announced. It includes President Summie Carter and Vice President Melanie Bowles, both of Salisbury. Keith Chalmers of Salisbury, a 1986 alumnus, is the immediate past president for the Chiefs Club. New Board members include John Rink of Salisbury, a 1949 alumnus and John Munday of Salisbury, a 1978 alumnus. Those serving on the Chiefs Club Board in the Class of 2005 include Dr. Rudy Busby, W. Summersett “Summie” Carter, Bill Hall, Tippie Miller, Richard H. Smith, Jr., Steve Yang, Wayne Dalton, and Joseph M. Trainor, all of the Salisbury area, and Darrel Parks of Trinity. The Board’s Class of 2006 includes Melanie Bowles, Bill Vanderford, Floyd Burton, Keith Chalmers, Sam Moir, David Patterson, and Marion. M. “Chub” Richards, all of the Salisbury area, David VanAken of Charlotte, and Frank Fields of Mooresville. The Board’s Class of 2007 includes J. Reid Bradshaw, Joyce Caddell, Dr. James “Chip” Comadoll, Charlie Little, Robert S. Setzer, and Eric Slipp, all of the Salisbury area, along with John H. Lewis of Mooresville. The Chiefs Club is sponsoring a dedication and recognition ceremony prior to Catawba’s first home football game of the season against Fayetteville State Saturday, August 28. The event, which begins at 11 a.m. at Newman Park Baseball Field on campus will honor Nan and Cecil Whitley of Salisbury for their leadership and support of the new outfield wall there. Members of the community are invited to attend.
