Women's Soccer open SAC with 3-0 win over Newberry

SALISBURY, NC – Catawba College, ranked #18 in NCAA II, got a late first-half goal and two second-half goals en route to a 3-0 win over the Newberry Lady Indians in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Sunday evening at Frock Field. Catawba stays undefeated, now 6-0, 1-0 in the SAC. Newberry drops to 5-2, 1-1. A Newberry foul led to the first Catawba goal in the 30th minute. Jennifer Lowe (Enfield, CT) took the free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, deflecting off of a Newberry defender, and found its way into the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Second half scoring opened up in the 51st minute as Jessica Parker (Glendale, AZ) fired a shot from 35 yards out the just snuck under the crossbar for her first on the year. McKenzie Burman (Rolesville, NC) tallied the final goal on a breakaway in the 79th minute for her seventh. Chelsea Hibbard (Wilson, NY) picked up the assist. Inga Woiwode (El Paso, TX) had a couple of scoring chances for Newberry, firing high on both attempts. Kathleen Blake (Greensboro, NC) made one save, picking up the win. Cathrine Balentine (Charlotte, NC) made two saves, entering for an injured Blake with two minutes left in the first-half.
