Volleyball falls in five despite Harrison's 25 killsSALISBURY, NC – Lenoir-Rhyne remained undefeated in league play with a five-game win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Goodman Gym. The Bears won by the scores of 30-27, 20-30, 30-21, 28-30 and 15-13 and improve to 15-4 overall and 6-0 in the SAC. The Lady Indians fall to 5-5 and 3-2. Catawba jumped to a 7-1 lead in the opening game, but LR rallied behind three kills and an ace by Rebekah Steinlin (Columbia, SC) to tie the game at 11-11. The Bears would use a six-point run later in the game to grab a 19-15 advantage. Catawba stayed close with three straight kills by Crissi Harrison (Hickory, NC) to get within 21-19 and a kill by Heather Hawkins (Troutman, NC) cut the deficit to 25-24. Angela Danley (Loganville, GA) had two kills and a block in the final push in game one for the Bears. The Lady Indians jumped to a 6-1 lead in game two and a pair of kills by Harrison and an ace by Jessica Cleary (Boca Raton, FL) helped Catawba to a 17-7 lead. Harrison helped Catawba hold the lead recording five kills and four blocks in the game. Lenoir-Rhyne used a 12-2 run to take control of game three. Kathryn Phillips (Lexington, NC) had had five kills and a block as the Bears moved to a 20-12 advantage. Three straight combo blocks by Hawkins and Elizabeth Hewitt (Hickory, NC) staked Catawba to a 4-0 lead in game four. A six-point run, capped by a Cleary ace, gave the Lady Indians s 22-17 lead. Lenoir-Rhyne pulled within 22-20, but a pair of Harrison kills and an ace by Crystal Bonner (Yadkinville, NC) upped the Lady Indian edge to 27-21. The Bears rallied to tie the game at 28-28, but a kill by Hawkins and a LR hitting error gave Catawba the game win. In game five, a pair of aces by Brandi Rickert (Huntersville, NC) helped LR to a 5-2 lead and two kills by Steinlin pushed the margin to 8-3. Harrison posted three straight kills to get Catawba within 14-13, but Brittany Parkhill (Hendersonville, NC) killed off the last point for the Bears. Five players reached double figures in kills for LR led by Steinlin with 17 and Leslie Hinkle (High Point,NC) with 15. Hinkle added 24 digs, while Phillips had 13 kills and seven blocks. Harrison posted a game-high 25 kills for Catawba and added five blocks. Hope Miller (Newton, NC) had 16 kills and 23 digs.
