Harrison and Hewitt pace Volleyball to win at TusculumGREENEVILLE, TN -- Senior Crissi Harrison (Hickory, NC) recorded 25 kills and five blocks to lead Catawba College to a 3-1 win over host Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Alpine Arena. The Lady Indians improve to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in the SAC, completing the season sweep over the Pioneers, winning the match by scores of 31-29, 30-23, 26-30 and 30-21. Tusculum falls to 7-11 and 0-7. Elizabeth Hewitt (Hickory< NC) added 20 kills and eight blocks, while Summer Zuck (Kingston, TN) accounted for a double-double with 15 kills and 18 digs in the victory. The Pioneers were led by Stephanie Jaeger's (Champlin, MN) 18 kills as Brittany Driggers (Lexington, SC) dished out 36 assists in the loss. Tusculum came out on fire in the opener scoring the first six points of the contest and led 10-2 following consecutive kills by Jaeger. Following a Catawba timeout, the Lady Indians cut the deficit using a 7-2 run and trailed 12-9 following service ace by Crystal Bonner (Yadkinville, NC). TC scored four straight points and moved ahead to a 17-9 advantage, capped off by an ace by Driggers, but that would be as much as TC would lead by in the frame as Catawba hung around and went on a 6-2 spurt to trail 27-26 as Zuck and Hewitt tallied consecutive kills. The Pioneers moved ahead 28-26 following a kill by Carrie Miller (Johnson City, TN), but the Lady Indians answered finishing with 5-1 spurt, including a kill by Harrison (Hickory, NC) on game-point to win 31-29. In the second game, Catawba led throughout as Hewitt posted three assisted blocks in a 6-0 run in the early going to lead 9-5, an advantage they wouldn't surrender en route to capturing the second frame 30-23. The third game saw Tusculum hold onto the lead through most of the stanza as Jaeger recorded five kills, while the Pioneers posted three aces en route to a 30-26 win. In game four, Hewitt posted eight kills and a pair of blocks as Catawba won the fourth and deciding game 30-21. Miller finished with 15 kills, while Sarah King (Alpharetta, GA) added 30 digs for the Pioneers.
