Burman's second-half tally salvages tie for Women's Soccer

HICKORY, NC -- Catawba College, ranked 12th in NCAA II, and host Lenoir-Rhyne battled to a 1-1 tie in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Bears Field. Catawba now stands at 10-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the SAC, while the Bears are 2-5-2 and 0-3-1. Lenoir-Rhyne opened the scoring just 2:26 into the match after Riana Lange (Richmond, VA) received a cross from Tara Learn (Goose Creek, SC) in the box and kicked it into the net. The match remained 1-0 until early in the second half, at 46:27, when Catawba's McKenzie Burman (Rolesville, NC) tied it with a shot in the box to the top far corner of the goal. Catawba had the better scoring chances in overtime. Jennifer Lowe (Enfield, CT) hit the crossbar from 25 yards with three minutes remaining and had a blast knocked down by a diving save from Nicole Ley (Cupertino, CA) with a minute and a half to go. Ley and the Indians' Cathrine Balentine (Charlotte, NC) each allowed just one goal in 110 minutes of action while tallying six and three saves, respectively. #12 CATAWBA (10-0-1, 3-0-1) 0 1 0 0 - 1 LENOIR-RHYNE (2-5-2, 0-3-1) 1 0 0 0 - 0 SCORING SUMMARY LR - 2:26 – Riana Lange (11) (Tara Learn) C - 46:27 – McKenzie Burman (12) Shots at Goal: Catawba 13, Lenoir-Rhyne 8 Corner Kicks: Catawba 9, Lenoir-Rhyne 2 Goalkeeper Saves: Lenoir-Rhyne - Nicole Ley 6 Catawba - Cathrine Balentine 3 Offsides: Catawba 4, Lenoir-Rhyne 0 Fouls: Catawba 15, Lenoir-Rhyne 14 Cautions: Catawba – Robinson (25’); Lenoir-Rhyne – Minnich (84’) ATT: 50 #######
