Volleyball falls to SAC-leading Presbyterian in three gamesSALISBURY, NC – Presbyterian outlasted host Catawba to earn a three-game win in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. Erin Friday (Summerville, SC) led the Blue Hose with 19 kills and 15 digs as Presbyterian won by the scores of 32-20, 36-24 and 30-17. Presbyterian improves to 21-6 overall and 10-1 in the SAC, while Catawba falls to 11-9 and 7-4. Catawba held game points in each of the first two games that were tightly contested. The opening game was tied at 21-21 when Elizabeth Hewitt (Hickory, NC) had a kill and two blocks to push Catawba on top 25-21. Hewitt and Friday traded kills that left the Lady Indians up 27-23, but Donja Bobbitt (San Antonio, TX) recorded three kills for the Blue Hose to help PC gain a 30-29 lead. Friday killed off the final two points for the 32-20 win. The Lady Indians jumped to a 22-13 lead in the second game, but PC rallied. A five-point run brought the Blue Hose within 25-23 and later Friday had three straight kills to put Presbyterian up 30-29. Hewitt and Jessica Cleary (Clearwater, FL) had kills to give Catawba a 31-30 lead then Friday had two kills to put PC up 32-31. A Hewitt kill and Heather Hawkins (Troutman, NC) ace lifted Catawba to a 33-32 lead. Lauren Mason (Peachtree City, GA) and Hewitt traded kills leaving Catawba up 34-33. Mason would kill a point to tie at 34-34 and after a Lady Indian set error, Jasmin Brown (Alpharetta, GA) killed off the final point. Presbyterian would slowly pull away in the third game. Bobbitt had two early kills as the Blue Hose went up 7-4. Crissi Harrison (Hickory, NC) had two kills for Catawba to keep the Lady Indians at 14-12, but a 10-3 run by the Blue Hose opened the game up. Mason had three kills early in the run for a 21-14 edge. Friday had a kill and block to push the edge to 27-16 then killed off the match point. Brown added 15 kills and three blocks for Presbyterian, while Erin Winchester (Pickens, SC) had 58 assists. Bobbitt had 13 kills and 18 digs. Hewitt paced Catawba with 15 kills and four blocks. Harrison had 14 kills with Crystal Bonner (Yadkinville, NC) adding 23 digs.
