Clayton, Cullen grab top SAC Women's Soccer honorsCatawba College junior goalkeeper Kim Clayton (Haw River, NC) and first year head coach John Cullen, have won two of the top post-season honors from the South Atlantic Conference for women's soccer. Clayton was named the Player of the Year, while Cullen was tabbed as Coach of the Year. Clayton is the fifth Catawba athlete in women's soccer to be selected as Player of the Year and the fourth in the past five years. Cullen is the third to earn Coach of the Year honors in women's soccer.Clayton was also named first team all-conference along with freshman Jessica Parker (Glendale, AZ). Named to the second team all-conference squad was sophomores Jamie Fink (Woodbridge, VA) and Danielle Mora (Glendale, AZ). Clayton, of Eastern Alamance High School, broke two of her own records this season, registering streaks of six consecutive shutouts and 602 minutes without allowing a goal. She allowed only three goals over seven league matches with five shutouts. For the year, she posted a 1.28 goal against average and recorded 86 saves. With 21 career shutouts, she is one shy of tying the school record, set by Scherrie Dalton from 1993-96. Parker, of Greenway High School, has started all 15 games at several different positions. She ranks second on the team with three goals. Fink, from Gar-Field High School, has a team-leading four goals and four assists, while Mora, of Xavier Prep, has started as sweeper, helping the team to seven shutouts. Catawba has a 8-6-1 record this season and have advanced to the SAC Tournament semifinals. The Lady Indians finished in a tie for second in the regular season. The South Atlantic Conference is a NCAA II league comprised of eight schools in North Carolina, South Caroline and Tennessee.
