Men's Soccer gets first NCAA II Region bidThe Catawba College menís soccer team has earned its first-ever NCAA II regional bid. The Indians received one of three spots in the Appalachian Region Tournament to be held at Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN. Catawba made several trips to the NAIA playoffs and twice earned spots in the NAIA National Tournament (1990 & 1991).Catawba, at 14-5, will face a rematch with Tusculum in the tournament opener. The Pioneers (15-2-2) defeated Catawba 1-0 Saturday in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament semifinals. The Indians had earned a 4-3 win during the regular season. Carson-Newman (17-1-1) is the top seed and will face the Tusculum/Catawba winner for the regional championship. Catawba enters the tournament after scoring 69 goals this season and allowing 35. Zay-Zay Gilewala (Monrovia, LIBERIA) has tallied 18 times, just three off the school mark. Two others, Nathan Zuzga (Troy, MI) and Gareth Turnbull (Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND), have a dozen goals. Zuzga missed the SAC Tournament matches with a leg injury. #####
