Hot shooting sparks Women's Basketball to win over NC Central

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College shot nearly 57% from the floor and defeated visiting North Carolina Central in women’s basketball action on Tuesday night at Goodman Gym. The Lady Indians improve to 3-0, while NCCU falls to 3-1. Catawba surrendering the opening basket then rolled to a 27-6 lead at the 11:48 mark after a three-pointer by Hannah Davis (Williamsburg, VA). The Lady Indians pushed the lead to 37-14 after a jumper by Jenny Volpicelli (Concord, NC). Catawba held a 42-25 lead at the break. The Lady Eagles scored two quick baskets to open the second half to pull within 42-29, but Catawba would eventually pull back out to a 20-point lead at 63-43 with 10:44 left. The Lady Indians went on to build a 24-point lead in the closing minutes. Tamekia Foster (Chesapeake, VA) led Catawba with a career-high 17 points and grabbed five rebounds with three steals. She hit on 8-of-10 from the field. Isiaette Darden (Wilson, NC) followed with 16 points and Davis added 15 points and five boards. Latoya Jones (Wake Forest, NC) led the Lady eagles with 14 points off the bench. Marissa Parker (Durham, NC) and Natasha Richardson (Baltimore, MD) each had 11 points. #####
