Women's Basketball fails to find offense in loss at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman held visiting Catawba to just 15 second-half points and recorded a 61-42 victory over the Lady Indians in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday at Holt Fieldhouse. The Lady Eagles improve to 14-4 overall and 4-1 in the SAC, while Catawba drops its third straight game and falls to 10-8 and 1-4. Carson-Newman’s Tiffany Parker (Newnan, Ga.) and Brooke Johnson (Seymour, Tenn.) each posted double-doubles for the victorious Lady Eagles. Parker had 13 points and 16 rebounds and Johnson added 11 points and 12 boards. Brittany Gooch (Franklin, Ky.) added 12 points for C-N. The Lady Indians were led in scoring by Isiaette Darden (Wilson, N.C.) who had 12 points. Tamekia Foster (Chesapeake, Va.) had seven points and eight rebounds. The Lady Eagles defense was stellar throughout the contest. C-N out-rebounded the Lady Indians 55-36, forced 21 turnovers, blocked eight shots and held Catawba to a field goal percentage of only 29% (16-56). The Lady Eagles trailed by two at halftime, 27-25, but scored the first six points of the second half and began to pull away. The Lady Eagles took a 42-33 edge with 13:14 to play and would build a 19-point lead at 55-36 on a three-pointer by Gooch at the 6:08 mark. #####
