Hamilton named SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -— Catawba’s Jamel Hamilton was named South Atlantic Conference Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week, league officials announced Monday. Hamilton, a freshman guard from Virginia Beach, Va., averaged 18.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and two assists last week in leading the Indians to three victories in three games.
Hamilton scored 15 and 19 points in victories over North Greenville (Monday) and Mars Hill (Wednesday), respectively, before coming off the bench to put up a career-high 21 points in Catawba’s 67-63 win at Carson-Newman Saturday in a battle for first place in the South Atlantic Conference. Hamilton’s jump shot with 10 minutes left against the Eagles gave the Indians the lead for good and the Maury High School graduate connected on a key three-pointer with four minutes left as well.
Hamilton, the teams’ top scorer this year (13.4 ppg), has helped Catawba (14-4, 4-1) move into sole possession of first place in league play.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the eight sports information directors of the league.
