Baseball outlasts Pfeiffer for 17-15 slugfest winMISENHEIMER, NC – Freshman Bubba Morris (Salisbury, NC) had a 4-for-6 performance, with two doubles and three RBI, leading the Catawba Indians to a 17-15 slugfest win against the host Pfeiffer Falcons on Friday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field. Pfeiffer had the advantage in the hit category at 17-16 with eight doubles and six homeruns between the two squads. The Indians improve to 5-3 on the season, while the Falcons drop to 3-4. The Tribe took a 4-3 lead into the top of the fourth, before exploding for eight runs in the frame. The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Morris as he smoked a bases-loaded double picking up his three RBI. The Falcons responded with six runs in the bottom of the fourth as Mike McClain (Stoney Creek, NC) blasted a two-run shot followed by Brian York’s (Midland, NC) three-run blast, bringing Pfeiffer within three, at 12-9, after four innings of play. The Catawba advantage fell to one after the Falcons put three more runs on the board in the fifth. Blake Jordan (Haw River, NC) led off with a long ball with Jaime Tucker (Midland, NC) picking up two-RBI with a base hit. The Indians were able to grab another run in the sixth as Zach Evans (Greensboro, NC) picked up his second home-run of the season, giving the Tribe a brief 14-12 lead. Pfeiffer came back to tie it at 14-14 picking up runs in the sixth and seventh innings as McClain and Jess Maloney (Clemmons, NC) delivered RBI singles. The Indians grabbed the lead for good in the top of the eighth when Morris and Matt Smith (Browns Summitt, NC) scored on the same wild pitch, while Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC) scored a few seconds later on another Falcon wild pitch. After the final out was made, three hours and twenty minutes later, Chad Baker (Jamestown, NC) picked up his first collegiate win and fellow freshman Matt Seabolt (Asheboro, NC) picked up his first save of the year. Chandler Chambers (Wilmington, NC) took the loss for Pfeiffer. ######
