Baseball crushes Belmont Abbey 21-1

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba pounded out 20 hits, five by Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, NC), including a pair of home-runs, en route to a 21-1 victory over visiting Belmont Abbey in baseball action on Monday night at Newman Park. Catawba improves to 7-3, while the Crusaders fall to 8-4. The Indians jumped on the board quickly as Davis capped a three-run first inning sending a two-run blast to center. Belmont Abbey cut the lead to 3-1 with a John Rosette (Jacksonville, FL) double to right-center. In the Catawba fifth, Chad Baker (Jamestown, NC) delivered a SAC-fly with Bubba Morris (Salisbury, NC) following with a two-run single to push the Indian lead to 7-1. The Tribe blew the game open in the sixth putting up 11 runs in the frame. Davis and Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, NC) each went 2-for-2 in the inning with three-RBI. Davis had a double and his second HR of the contest, while Rimer picked up a single and a two-run blast of his own. Chad Baker, David Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC) and Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC) all had run producing hits in the frame. Matt Fairweather (Lenoir, NC) picked up his first win of the season tossing seven innings, scattering four hits, allowing one run while fanning five. Freshmen Matt Seabolt (Asheboro, NC) and Tim Smith (Walnut Cove, NC) each hurled a perfect inning of relief. ######
