Baseball takes two from Lincoln MemorialHARROGATE, Tenn. -- Catawba swept a doubleheader from host Lincoln Memorial on Saturday afternoon at Hennon Field. The Indians won by the scores of 13-4 and 6-3 in improving to 10-3-1 on the year. The Railsplitters fall to 0-9.Matt Fairweather (Lenoir, N.C.) allowed four runs (two earned) over seven innings to improve to 2-0 in the year for Catawba in the opener. The senior allowed six hits and struck out five. He was backed by four-hit games by Matt Baker (Charlotte, N.C.) and Matt Smith (Browns Summitt, N.C.). Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, N.C.) had three RBI. A two-run homer by Derek Treece (Powell, Tenn.) gave Lincoln Memorial a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the opener. Smith put the Tribe on top in the third with a two-out, two-run double. LMU tied the game in the fourth on a double by Treece, but the Indians scored three in the fifth and three more in the sixth to break the game open. Davis doubled home the go-ahead run in the fifth and Thomas Giles (Lynchburg, Va.) added a two-run double. Davis had a two-run double in the sixth. Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, N.C.) had a two-run double in the seventh. Catawba scored three runs in the opening frame of the second game. Freshman David Thomas (Winston-Salem, N.C.) led off the game with home run, while Rimer and Bryan Sommer (New Port Richey, Fla.) had run-scoring singles in the frame. Thomas added a RBI-single in the third. Smith tossed five innings to grab his second win of the year without a defeat. The junior scattered eight hits and allowed three runs with three strikeouts. Zach Evans (Greensboro, N.C.) pitched a perfect seventh to earn his third save of the season. Thomas paced the offense with three hits, while Evans and Baker each had two hits. Wes Strader (Anaheim, Calif.) and Josh Kemph (Hendersonville, Tenn.) collected three hits for the Railsplitters. ######
