Hyde, Spada set school records at Blue Grass Swimming ChampionshipsWOOSTER, Ohio -- Catawba College placed seventh out of 12 teams at the 2005 Blue Grass Mountain Conference Swimming Championships. The Championships concluded Saturday at the Shapiro Natatorium at Wooster High School. Junior Erin Hyde (Lilburn, Ga.) established two new school records, while Leigh Spada (Shelby, N.C.) set one school mark and a freshman standard. Catawba earned spots in a pair of finals on the opening day.The 200 free relay team earned a seventh place finish as the team of freshmen Emily Daniels (Mebane, N.C.), Christine Ofslager (Midlothian, VA) and Spada along with Hyde posted a time of 1:44.44. Individually, Spada placed eighth in the 50 free in a time of 25.38. Her 25.37 in the preliminary set a Lady Indian freshman record. Lauren Smith (Seekonk, Mass.) was 15th in the 200 IM in a time of 2:17.28. Catawba got off to a good start on day two with a sixth place swim in the 200 medley relay. Ofslager, Daniels and Smith teamed with Margeaux Doiron (Gibson, La.) to clock a time of 1:59.03. Hyde would swim a school-record in the 100 fly. She finished sixth in a time of 59.68. Hyde was also sixth in the 100 back (1:01.70). Ofslager had a lifetime best swim in the 1000 free (11:37.22) to finish 11th and was 10th in the 100 back (1:05.27). Spada also had a lifetime best swim, coming in the 200 free (2:00.80), placing 11th. Doiron was ninth in the 100 fly (1:01.70) and 11th in the 100 breast (1:13.43), while Daniels placed 14th in both the 100 fly (1:06.21) and the 100 back (1:06.72). Smith finished ninth in the 100 breast (1:11.32). Two school records fell on Saturday. Hyde swam a NCAA II “B” cut in the 200 back, setting a school mark in the process with a time of 2:10.39. Spada posted a school mark in the 100 free prelims with a time of 54.93. She was eighth in the final in a time of 55.49. Smith picked up an eight place finish in the 200 breast (2:35.75), Ofslager finished 10th in the 1650 free (19:51.72) and Doiron was 13th in the 200 fly (2:22.31). The 400 free relay team of Hyde, Daniels, Smith and Spada placed seventh (3:46.97). #######
