Baseball falls in 10 innings at AikenAIKEN, S.C. -- Mark Joehnk’s two-out 10th-inning single through the left side of the infield scored Zach Cooper from second base to give host USC-Aiken an 8-7 win over 23rd-ranked Catawba in baseball action on Friday night at Hernandez Stadium. The Pacers improve to 7-3, while Catawba falls to 12-4. Catawba took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning as Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, N.C.) singled home a run and Matt Baker (Charlotte, N.C.) scored on a wild pitch. Aiken took the lead in the third inning as Robert Davis and Darryl Pui delivered RBI-singles in a three-run frame. Aiken went up 4-2 on a solo homer by Davis in the fifth, but the Indians struck back in the sixth, getting within 4-3 on a RBI from Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, N.C.). The pacers added a run in the seventh, but Catawba would grab the lead in the eighth, scoring three unearned runs. The Pacers got two runs back in its eighth on a single by Casey Derhak. Catawba tied the game in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Davis. In the Aiken 10th, Cooper singled with two outs and stole second before Joehnk’s game-winning hit. Chad Baker (Jamestown, N.C.) led the Tribe at the plate with three hits, while Davis and Zach Evans (Greensboro, N.C.) each had two. Derhak, Davis and Cooper each had two hits for Aiken. ######
