Baseball swept at USC-Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. -- Catawba dropped its third straight game to host USC-Aiken as the Tribe fell 4-1 in baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Hernandez Stadium. The Pacers improve to 9-3, while the Indians, ranked 23rd, fall to 12-6. Aiken took the lead in the fifth inning of the pitchers duel on a one-out single by Ian Kowalchuk. Casey Derhak added a RBI double in the seventh and the Pacers picked up two insurance runs in the eighth. Daniel Quartararo homered and Brandon Barenie singled home a run. Catawba posted its lone run in the ninth on a groundout by Matt Kepley (Greensboro, N.C.). Zach Evans (Greensboro, N.C.) popped out with the bases loaded in the ninth. The Tribe left 10 runners on in the loss. Jeff Abdelnour (Cohoes, N.Y.) scattered eight hits and allowed four runs over his seven innings. He walked none and struck out two. Paden Rucker allowed just five hits in eight innings of work for USCA. Bubba Morris (Salisbury, N.C.) had three of the Tribe’s six hits, while another freshman, David Thomas (Winston-Salem, N.C.), added two. Barenie had three hits for the Pacers. ######
