Baseball drops pair to Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Pfeiffer earned two wins over Catawba in baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Ferebee Field. The Falcons took a 9-4 decision in the completion of a suspended game back on February 16 and took a 10-4 win in the regularly scheduled contest. Catawba falls to 12-8. The completed game began with Pfeiffer having runners at second and third with one out. Kevin Dietrich (Charlotte, N.C.) singled to bring home the go-ahead run and Mike McClain (Stoney Creek, N.C.) followed with a two-run double. Daniel Brown (Walnut Cove, N.C.), Jordan Taylor (Charlotte, N.C.) and Jamie Tucker (Midland, N.C.) all collected three hits for Pfeiffer. Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, N.C.) and Matt Smith (Browns Summitt, N.C.) finished with two hits for Catawba. Pfeiffer hit four home runs in winning the second game 10-4. Tucker homered in the first for a 1-0 lead and a RBI-double by Brian York (Midland, N.C.) made it 2-0 after four innings. York would hit a three-run homer to stretch the Falcon lead to 6-0 in the fifth. A three-run homer by Kyle Pugh (Asheboro, N.C.) capped a four-run seventh to give Pfeiffer a 10-1 lead. Catawba’s T.J. Wilson (Hudson, N.C.) homered in the seventh, while Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, N.C.) had a two-run shot in the eighth. Matt Baker (Charlotte, N.C.) had a RBI double in the eighth. Tucker and Pugh had three hits for Pfeiffer, while York had five RBI. Baker, Rimer and Smith had two hits for Catawba. Tristan Covington (Virginia Beach, Va.) allowed just seven hits and one run over seven innings to earn the win on the mound. ######
