Davis, Link lead Baseball to win over #14 West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Paul Link (Cleveland, N.C.) tossed a complete game and Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, N.C.) belted three doubles as Catawba defeated host West Florida, ranked #14 in NCAA II, in baseball action on Tuesday night at Pelican Park. The Tribe improves to 15-10, while the Argonauts fall to 14-8. Freshman David Thomas (Winston-Salem, N.C.) led off the game with a singles and stole home for the Tribe’s first run. Davis collected a two-run double in the opening inning as Catawba took a 4-0 lead. A solo homer by Matt Baker (Charlotte, N.C.) in the third staked the Indians to a 5-0 advantage. West Florida fought back with a two-out, two-run double by Jacob Whisenhunt (Mobile, Ala.) in the third and a RBI single by Chris Gormley (Florissant, Mo.) in the fourth to trip the deficit to 5-3. Catawba got all three runs back in the sixth, benefiting from a pair of West Florida errors and Davis capped the scoring with a RBI-double in the seventh. Link surrendered 11 hits, but went the distance while issuing two walks with one strikeout. Davis had three hits, all doubles, to pace the offense. Peter Antoske (Olmsted Township, Ohio) had three hits for West Florida. #####
