Davis named SAC Baseball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Catawba designated hitter Jimbo Davis and Tusculum starting pitcher Brent Gabel were named South Atlantic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday afternoon. Davis, a junior from Salisbury, N.C., helped Catawba compile a perfect 6-0 record; completing three-game sweeps of No. 14 West Florida and SAC rival Presbyterian. During the past seven days, Davis batted .545 with three home runs and ten RBIs. He knocked in five runs in the final game of the Presbyterian series. Gabel, a junior from Conneaultville, Pa., ran his season record to an impressive 5-0 with a win over SAC rival Lenoir-Rhyne on March 12th. Gabel scattered five hits and struck out five in his only starting appearance of the week against the Bears. Gabel also pitched an inning of hitless relief in Tusculumís 8-2 victory over North Greenville College on March 9th. The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the eight sports information directors in the league. #####
