Softball falls twice to #14 North Florida

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba dropped both ends of a doubleheader to 14th-ranked North Florida in softball action on Monday afternoon at Whitley Field. The Ospreys won by the scores of 5-1 and 3-1 to improve to 25-5 on the year. Catawba falls to 17-17. A lead-off homer by Kelli Rutenbar (Lakeland, FL) in the second put North Florida up 1-0 in the opener. In the third, Jessica Sexton (Jacksonville, FL) led off with a double and scored on an ensuing two-bagger by Ashley Parenteau (Palm Beach Gardens, FL). A RBI single by Laura Hanstein (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) gave UNF a 3-0 edge. Catawba got its lone run in the sixth as the Lady Indians picked up three straight hits with two outs to put the tying run on base. Stacey Handy (Advance, NC) got the rally started. She moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a hit by Jacqueline White (Mt. Ulla, NC). Lacey Waldroop (Franklin, NC) followed with a single, but Tori Ahern (Wellington, FL) got the final out of the frame on a strikeout then struck out the side in the seventh to improve to 14-2.
