Davis sends Baseball to 6-2 SAC win over LRSALISBURY, NCó Junior Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, NC) blasted a three-run homerun in the sixth inning, propelling the Catawba Indians to a 6-2 win over the visiting Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in South Atlantic Conference baseball action, Friday afternoon at Newman Park. With the win, the Indians improve to 22-12 overall, 7-3 in SAC play, while the Bears fall to 18-15, 3-7. The Tribe struck first in the bottom of the second as Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, NC) hit a solo-HR for a 1-0 lead. LR responded with a run in the fourth on a Jordan Ackley (Walnut Cove, NC) sacrifice fly. In the Indian sixth, Catawba took advantage of three Bear errors to plate four unearned runs. Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC) picked up an RBI before the long ball off the bat of Davis. David Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC) closed out the Catawba scoring with a RBI-triple in the bottom of the seventh. Ackley, who finished the day 2-for-3, picked up another RBI with a double in the eighth as the Bears tried to mount a comeback. The Bears, however, left a total of 11 runners on base, including the bases-loaded twice. LR out-hit the Indians 9-4. Tribe starter Matt Fairweather (Lenoir, NC) tossed eight innings, allowing two runs while striking out seven, picking up his fifth win of the season. John Patterson (Hickory, NC) threw six innings taking up the loss for the Bears, despite allowing three hits.
