Magnusson named all-region in Men's BasketballSALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College menís basketball player, Helgi Magnusson, has been named second team All-South Atlantic Region by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Magnusson, a junior forward from Reykjavick, ICELAND, was a first team All-South Atlantic Conference pick as he helped the Indians to a 23-7 record and the league championship. Magnusson led Catawba in both scoring (14.7) and rebounding (6.8) and was second in both assists (76) and steals (46). The junior reached double figures in scoring on 25 occasions and posted seven double-doubles. He tallied a career-high 33 points and 12 rebounds in a one-point loss at Tusculum. During the season, Magnusson surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for his career and stands 25th on the all-time scoring chart with 1,241 points entering his senior season. Magnusson is a two-time All-SAC selection and has helped Catawba to consecutive NCAA II regional berths. #####
