Fairweather and Lefko take SAC Baseball Player of Week honorsROCK HILL, S.C. – Catawba College swept South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honors this week, as outfielder Nick Lefko and starting pitcher Matt Fairweather were named SAC and Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday afternoon. Catawba completed a three-game sweep of Carson-Newman College this weekend, as the Indians surpassed Tusculum College for sole possession of first place in the conference.Lefko, a junior from Faith, N.C., hit .450 over the course of five games last week. He also knocked home 14 runs, more than doubling his season output. Lefko hit .583 in the weekend series with Carson-Newman, and hit a grand slam in the opening inning of Sunday’s game. Lefko also collected six RBIs with another grand slam in a 13-10 win over Pfeiffer University on Tuesday. Fairweather, a senior from Lenoir, N.C., tossed a complete game, five-hitter in game one of a doubleheader with Carson-Newman on Saturday afternoon. During his nine inning outing, Fairweather struck out five and walked none, while only surrendering three earned runs in the Indians 8-3 win over the Eagles. On the season, Fairweather has a 3.73 ERA and has only allowed 78 hits in 82 innings pitched. The SAC player and pitcher of the week are selected by the conference’s eight sports information directors. #####
