Davis earns first team All-America Baseball honors

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College designated hitter Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, NC) has been named a first team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association.  The junior heads the list of four Indians who earned recent post-season honors.  Davis was also named to both the ABCA and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-South Region teams and was joined on those squads by Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, NC) and Matt Fairweather (Lenoir, NC).  The trio was joined on the NCCSIA All-State team by Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC).
Davis led the Tribe and was second in the South Atlantic Conference in both homers (17) and RBI (65).  He ranked 12th in NCAA II in home runs per game and 23rd in runs batted in.  He will enter his senior season just one RBI shy of the school career mark.  For the season, Davis hit .380, collecting 73 hits with a .734 slugging percentage.

Fairweather, a senior pitcher, posted an 8-2 record with a 3.31 ERA to grab second team honors from the ABCA and the NCBWA.  He set a new school record with 30 wins over his four seasons as he helped the Tribe to a pair of league titles.  Over his 98 innings in 2005, Fairweather allowed just 89 hits and recorded 75 strikeouts.

Rimer, a junior first baseman, was also a second team selection by the ABCA and the NCBWA.  He batted .350 and was second on the team with 12 homers and 45 RBI.  He posted a .466 on-base percentage as he ranked 35th in the NCAA II in walks with 33.  At his first full season at first base, Rimer made just five errors in 334 chances.

Baker, a senior second baseman, joined the three with All-State honors after he hit .362 with nine homers and 41 RBI.  He led the SAC and ranked 25th in NCAA II in doubles per game.  Baker finished his career as the Indians’ all-time leader in both hits and RBI.  He was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III second team after posting a 3.25 GPA while majoring in sports management.
