Catawba to add Men's Swimming in 2006-07

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College has announced it will add menís swimming as a varsity sport beginning in the fall of 2006. That addition will bring the total number of sports offered by Catawba to 18. Catawba has fielded a womenís swim team since 1994. Betsy Graham will coach both programs.Catawba competes in NCAA Division II and the Bluegrass Mountain Conference. Catawba offers a wide range of major areas of study and the swimming program is a funded program with scholarships available. The training facility is a 25-yard six lane indoor pool. The Lady Indians swimming team is an up and coming program. The squad has produced an All-American swimmer and the team as a whole has been picked as an All-Academic Team. The team has placed at the NCAA DII championships and this past year broke five school records. Coach Graham has been with Catawba College for four years. During this time the womenís team has improved tremendously. The women have a dual meet record of 16-6. They have produced an honorable mention All-American, an honorable mention All-Academic performer, two NCAA A cuts, five NCAA B cuts and have broken a total of 35 team records. Graham is an ASCA level 5 coach who has coached Men and Women on the collegiate and age group levels. She has produced collegiate All-Americans, Olympic trials participants, junior and senior national champions. #####
