Two make Football academic squad

Catawba College juniors Todd McComb and Nick Means, both of Thomasville, NC, have been named to the Verizon Academic All-District III College Division football squad.  McComb, a linebacker, and Means, a wide receiver, will advance to the national ballot.  The teams are chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America.    McComb, from Thomasville High School, made the All-District team last season.  He has a 3.51 GPA while majoring in mathematics.  He leads the Tribe defense in tackles and is a three-time Dean's List member.

Means, also of Thomasville High School, has moved into third place on Catawba's all-time receiving list with 112 catches.  He is just under 300 yards short of setting the career yardage mark set in the late 1960s.  Meanshas attained a 3.49 GPA while majoring in business.  He is the 2001 SAC Scholar Athlete for football and has also made the Dean's List and Presidential Honor Roll at Catawba.

Catawba posted a 9-1 record this season and earned its second straight South Atlantic Conference Championship.  The Indians advanced to the NCAA II playoffs for the third straight season.  The South Atlantic Conference is a NCAA II league comprised of eight schools in North Carolina, South Caroline and Tennessee.
