Women's Basketball opens season with overtime win

FARMVILLE, VA — Catawba College, ranked 22nd in the WBCA pre-season poll, opened its season with an 86-81 overtime win over host Longwood in women's basketball action in the C&L Lancer Classic on Friday night at Lancer Hall. The Lady Indians will play 24th-ranked Pittsburgh-Johnstown in Saturday's 4 p.m. championship game. Catawba built a 45-35 edge at the half and was down by 11 with 10 minutes to play before a rally to send the contest to overtime. Junior Dorthell Little (Rockingham, NC) recorded a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead Catawba. She also added five assists, a block and a steal. Catawba shot 47% for the game to just 35% for the Lancers, but committed 27 turnovers to just 16 for the hosts. Four other Lady Indians also reached double figures as sophomore Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) tossed in 16 points, with seven rebounds, and senior Ella Pasola (Vantaa, FINLAND) added 14. Junior transfer Lynn Morancie (Houston, TX) tossed in a dozen, while junior Desiree Pugh (Norlina, NC) had 10 points and seven rebounds. #######
