Volleyball suffers first SAC lost; fall 3-0 at Carson-NewmanJEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles volleyball team defeated the visiting Catawba Indians 3-0 (30-16, 30-21, 30-21) Friday night, the first loss in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) the Indians have suffered this season. With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in the SAC standings. The Indians fall to 7-5, 2-1 in conference play. The Lady Eagles used 10 service aces in the match, six of which came in game two. C-N hit .381 for the match including over .400 in game one (.450) and in game three (.419) while holding the Indians to a .126 hitting percentage. Carson-Newman was led in kills by Kelli Sorensen (Maple Grove, Minn.) who had 15. Meg Davis (Birmingham, Ala.) added 11 kills in the match. Blaire Young (Morristown, Tenn.) paced C-N with 14 digs and Melissa Miller (Springfield, Ohio) added 12. Melissa Griffith (Williamsburg, Va.) led Catawba with 10 kills. Missy Bartholomew (New Carlisle, Ind.) had 10 digs for the Indians and Jessica Cleary (Boca Raton, Fla.) added seven.
