Women's Soccer stays unbeaten in SAC play with 2-0 win over LR

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College junior McKenzie Burman (Rolesville, NC) scored two goals as the Lady Indians picked up their six straight win with a 2-0 victory over visiting Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Wednesday night at Frock Field. The Lady Indians improves to 7-2 overall, 2-0 in SAC play. The Bears fall to 4-3-3 and 2-2.After a scoreless first half, Burman tallied her first of the night at the 48:35 mark putting the Tribe up 1-0. Three minutes later Burman grabbed goal number twelve on the year as Kyley Thompson (Hagerstown, MD) sent a cross that Burman chipped over LR goalkeeper Nicole Ley (Cupertino, CA) for the 2-0 advantage. The Bears were led by Tara Learn (Hanahan, SC) who took three shots on the night, two of which were on goal. As a team, LR managed eight shots total, six on goal. Cathrine Balentine (Charlotte, NC) made six saves picking up the shutout. Ley made five saves for the Bears. I'm proud of the girls, stated Coach John Cullen. We finished off the month with a six-match winning streak which helped ofset a little bit of a sluggish start.
