Fearman scores three as #9 Women's Soccer claims 2005 SAC titleSALISBURY, NC – Junior Kelly Fearman (Alliston, ONT, CANADA) scored three goals as Catawba College captured the 2005 South Atlantic Conference Championship, their first since 2002, defeating Presbyterian College in SAC women’s soccer action Saturday night at Frock Field. With the win, the Lady Indians push their non-losing streak to 12 matches, improving to 12-2-1 overall, 6-0-1 in the SAC. The Lady Blue Hose fall to 5-7-1 and 1-5-1. Fearman didn’t waste anytime giving the Tribe an early 1-0 lead. Off of a PC foul, Lauren Ebersole (Hagerstown, MD) took a free kick from 40 yards out and found the head of Fearman who picked up her third goal of the season in the seventh minute of play. Steph Morey (Ephrata, PA) grabbed her second tally of the season at the 13:55 mark as a deflected corner kick rebounded straight to Morey at the top of the box for the goal. Fearman found the back of the net again in the 27th minute as Kyley Thompson (Hagerstown, MD) and Kim Crowley (Glendale, AZ) assisted on Fearman’s fourth of the season. The Lady Blue Hose would get on the board a couple of minutes later as Claire Joyce (Aiken, SC) tallied her seventh of the year on a 23-yard free kick. In the second half, Fearman notched the hat-trick in the 56th minute taking the rebounded shot from Thompson tapping it in giving the Lady Indians a 4-1 lead. PC mounted a late comeback as Joyce found a streaking Ginny Wolfe (Lexington, SC) who picked up goal number nine on the year. Cathrine Balentine (Charlotte, NC) made six saves picking up the win. Brittany Pecora (Myrtle Beach, SC) made two stops playing the first half with Erin Sinkular (Roswell, GA) making four saves in the second half for Presbyterian. "I would like to give credit to the other teams in the league for such a competitive season," said Catawba coach John Cullen. "I would also like to thank my assistants Dan Dudley, Scherrie Dalton and Dave Griffith for their time and dedication this year. And finally, I would like to commend the players for an outstanding season. When we were 1-2 everyone was wondering what was wrong and they stuck together and 12 matches later their SAC Champions."
